Albacon Report
October 14, 2008 on 11:00 am | In Appearances | 1 CommentIt was an exhausting and FUN weekend in Albany, NY! (I’m still recovering! LOL) I got to spend time with some great folks, including a bunch of authors and most especially my new friends Peggy and Dave who drove all the way from Canada to say hello. They only reinforced my feelings that 99.9% of Canadians I’ve met are totally fun people and extremely nice! We talked and laughed most of the weekend and had a great time at the banquet.
I got some amazing pieces of art at the art show and had a blast on the various panels. Oddly enough, the most well-attended panel I was on was the “Sex in Fantasy” panel, in which we ran out of chairs and some people had to sit on the floor. (Also in which Stella Price got molested by a dragon puppet. I’ll post video of the dragon puppet as soon as I get time to dowload/upload my vids from the con.)
Jackie Kessler was in her element and I had a great time talking with her again. I also met some great new writers and too many people to name. I caught a bug at the con, I guess, and have been a little under the weather ever since. So I’ll be posting things over the next few days, though tomorrow we have a pre-scheduled Wallpaper Wednesday here on the blog, so check that out for sure. I’ll most likely have some videos to post on Thursday or Friday and more con recap. In the meantime, I’m all about getting better, so I’ll be around, but not as much as usual.
Thanks to all who made the weekend so much fun!
Albacon Update
October 7, 2008 on 7:00 am | In Appearances | No CommentsI just got this from an official at Albacon. Thought I’d pass it on for anyone who’s planning to go. I’ll still be there, of course, but the Guest of Honor won’t. Bummer.
“Albacon regretfully announces that, due to health issues, Anne McCaffrey will not be able to attend the convention. I’m sure you’ll join us in wishing her a speedy recovery.
But Albacon will continue. Todd McCaffrey will still be Guest of Honor, and we have full slate of programming and events. These include the Ice Cream Social, the Saturday Night Extravaganza, 1632.com, and a special presentation by some of the stars of Star Trek II: New Voyages. In addition, some of this year’s guests are Eric Flint, Deborah Doyle and Jim Macdonald, Steve Miller and Sharon Lee, David Hartwell, Geoffrey Landis, Alexis Gilliland, and many others.
Though we, of course, would have preferred that Anne attend, we still expect this to be the best Albacon ever. Hope to see you there.

Comfort Reads
October 6, 2008 on 8:00 am | In Just For Fun | 5 CommentsWhen I can’t concentrate enough to start something new, I find myself going back to reread (well, sort of skim) some old, familiar books that remind me why I wanted to be a writer in the first place. This past weekend, I found myself rereading Mackenzie’s Mission by Linda Howard. The whole set of Mackenzies are favorites of mine, but especially the first one, Mackenzie’s Mountain, and this one.
I have other “old favorite” authors in different genres and sub-genres including Diana Palmer, Suzanne Brockman, Rachel Lee’s Conard County series, Merline Lovelace’s Codename Danger series, and others. Those are probably the oldest books in my library – the old series romances I used to devour by the truckload. My old “standby’s.” I’m curious – am I the only one? If not, what are some of your old favorite comfort reads?
