The winner of last week’s Scorch is:

Jacki

Congratulations! Email me within 30 days at biancadarc at live.com to claim your prize.

And may I say, I think Valentine’s Day as a “special” holiday is a bit over-rated. Judging by the comments to last week’s Scorch post, many of you feel the same. Good to know I’m not alone! ;-)

Now for the final Scorching February contest of this year…

The prize this week is the winner’s choice of any ebook from my backlist! To enter, comment on this post and tell me something about your reading habits. Do you read on the way to work? Do you read AT work? (LOL!) Do you read at night before going to sleep? Whatever you want to tell me about when and how you read. I’m interested! :)

And now I’m going to gratuitously talk about FireDrake. Why? Because it just got an awesome 4 star review from Romantic Times! Also, I just got the shiny new author’s copies of the print version that hits bookstores at the end of March. And finally, because I just started working on my next dragon book, so I’m in a dragony mood. Look for FireDrake – available in ebook right now and in print next month!

A knight most unexpected…

Fifteen years ago, Drake left everything behind for a life in the shadows. While it broke his heart to leave his grieving dragon behind, serving Draconia as head of a network of spies suited him better. Far better than never quite measuring up to Mace, the “perfect” knight his father wished he could have been.

Mace has always done his duty, and done it well. Drake, his childhood friend and rival, was the charmer who effortlessly stole every woman who caught Mace’s eye. Some things never change—not one day back in town, and Drake’s already putting the moves on Krysta, the woman Mace has been courting.

And now the three of them have taken on the dangerous task of rescuing a kidnapped prince.

With each day that passes on their perilous journey, Krysta sinks deeper into the complicated relationship between the two men and their meddling, matchmaking dragons. Mace is clearly the safer choice for a mate; yet Drake tantalizes her with that unpredictable gleam in his eye. When the three of them come together, any sense of torn loyalty burns away in nights of fiery passion.

The safety of the stolen prince hanging in the balance, Krysta accepts the challenge to unite two strong men—and their dragons—into a real family.

If the fire within doesn’t burn them all to cinders first.

  1. I read…. everywhere. I read at night before bed, at work on my lunch, in the car waiting for the kids to get out of school, at the doctor’s office, the pizza parlor and chine place waiting for takeout, you name it I’ve read there.

  2. I read before going to sleep and when I wake up.

  3. Congrats, Bianca, on the 4 star review. There are 2 things I have in my purse at all times—a book and a notepad with pen. Okay, maybe 3 things. I even keep these things in my car—but a reference book of sorts in the car, where I don’t have to get involved in a story and then not read it until I’m waiting in the car again.

Right now, in the car, I have Wonderful Ways to Love a Teen by Judy Ford. That way when I’m waiting on my son, I can read something and it’ll be fresh in my mind to apply that method. In my purse, I like to carry a pocket size Historical Facts or the Running Press Portable Cycolpedia. I also like to carry a small writing motivational book like Writing Down the Bones. Needless to say, my purse is not small!

If I’m going somewhere where I know I’ll have a wait, I’ll bring a novel. I’ve taught my son to do the same. He never leaves home without a book.

I mean, if I’m stuck somewhere with no book to read, I get frustrated and think of all that wasted time. Of course, I could be writing, but now that I’ve gotten used to writing on the computer, I use my Thought Journal for just that, nothing more. But if I do hand write longer, then I need to know a book is handy. It’s as if it gives me options, so I’m choosing to write instead of read. Basically having a book with me at all times is just a prop, if that makes any sense.

  4. As for reading at home, I used to feel guilty for reading at home while my DH “was slaving away at work.” I realized that when he came home, he got on the computer and played games or watched t.v., while I continued to work around the house—i.e. cleaning supper dishes or tidying up kitchen, or working in garden outside. I even take his dog for a walk, which isn’t really work, still it’s not quiet reading time. However, I still mostly save my reading for nighttime. I was up til 2:30 reading this morning.

Sometimes, I just need a day to read. So I’ll stay in bed on Saturday, for instance, and read a book all the way through. I think everyone needs a rest day like that every now and then. It quiets the mind, de-stresses the body, and helps the soul to rejuvenate.

  6. I read everywhere at any time. If I have a few minutes I’m reading a book. If have to come up from air by a certain time have to even set an alarm or I would read until the book was done lol.

  7. I read about a hour in the morning before work and about 2-3 hours after dinner at night, at the doc, at lunch and in the car(on audio when I’m driving). I’d read all weekend if I could, but some times the cleaning, shopping and laundry just have to get done!

  8. Congrats on the reviews for FireDrake, love the cover. I read whenever I get a spare moment, on the way to work, at lunch, and usually a couple of chapters before bed.

  9. I love to read in the tub. As a WAHM, I don’t get to read a lot during the day. But I love to take a nice hot bubble bath with a book that’ll take me away until the water gets cold.

    HA
    sorry
    ok
    I read everywhere.
My phone is my reader. I always have a book with me.
I read while watching tv, movies, listening to music, in the bath. I read while my husband is driving me to work. I read on my break I read on my lunch.
I read instead of doing housework. Thank GOD my husband reads as well, so I don’t get the look when something doesn’t get at home!

  11. I read every chance I get. My book goes everywhere with me. I read at work. I read in the car sitting at the bank. When I’m home I sit in my office and read. I sit at the table in the kitchen and read while cooking dinner. I usually read a book a day and I’ve pretty much stopped watching television. I’ll watch movies every now and them. But I prefer my books.

  12. My favorite reading is in bed but like most of the others I read everywhere. Yes, I’ve read at work, in the car, in the tub, at the dentist/docs, at the table, while brushing my teeth, doing my hair, and while cooking. It’s not as if my cooking would improve by paying attention! I prefer to call it multi-tasking. I keep a couple of magazines in the car for unexpected waiting time.

It’s rare for me to get up early to read. I prefer to just finish my book the night before – even if that means little sleep. Then I start the new book in the morning.

  13. I read any time, anywhere, it may be waiting for a class, on lunch, waiting in line for something, when i am at home in my comfy bed, while watching a movie at my bfs house.

Whenever the mood to read gets me, therefore it’s always good to have a book with me wherever I go :)

  14. I’m a mom of two young girls, so the only chance I get is after they go to bed (and my hubby), in the tub, with the door locked and at least two warm-ups! :)
