Update

I’m happy to announce that I’ve finished DEAD ALEERT and handed it in to my editor. Whew! That’s the last of the zombie novels, due out sometime next year. I’m taking a few days to myself – to recover – and then I’ll be hard at work on more new stuff. I’m actually spending the day with my Dad,who turns 85 today. Happy Birthday, Dad!

We’re marking a sad anniversary too. Today was the last “happy” day I had with my parents. The day after my Dad’s birthday last year was the day my Mom went to the doctor for the first time because she was feeling out of breath. That night was spent sleeping in a chair next to my Mom’s bed in the hospital. It was another month before they actually diagnosed her with lung cancer. So it’s a weird sort of week for me. Happy and sad. The roller coaster of emotion I’ve been on for the past year.

It also doesn’t help that I have a miserable summer cold. That shouldn’t be allowed. I mean, I can uderstand getting a cold in the winter, but in August??? What’s up with that? So I’m sniffling and sneezing and coughing my way through my Dad’s birthday. It’s going to be sort of low-key here, unfortunately. I wish I could throw him a party or do something exciting, but it sounds like we’ll be lucky to go out to dinner and see a movie. *sigh* The glamorous life of a novelist, eh?

So that’s it from here, for now. DEAD ALERT turned out even better than I’d hoped. It ends with a bang and ties up the series nicely, I think. Hopefully my editor will agree. *fingers crossed*
